On October the 6th, one of our directors, Lyndon Hollinshead attended the WellChild Awards in London. At the awards, KGJ Sponsored the category for the age group 7-10. We would like to say massive congratulations to young Toby and Nellie-Mai winning the “Male & Female 2015 Inspirational Award” who we felt truly deserved this, well done!
Toby was aged 3, when he was diagnosed with an illness called Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, this sadly meant that Toby was no longer able to walk and would be paralysed from the chest down. This meant Toby, would be wheelchair bound for the rest of his life and he had to start to learn to adapt to his new way life. Being such an inspirational and strong little boy, Toby didn’t let this stop him from taking part in wheelchair racing and basketball and also triathlons.
When Nellie-Mai was born, she was in need of a heart transplant; Nellie-Mai has also had to battle cancer, on-going elliptic attacks and a stroke. Thankfully, at the age of 11months Nellie-Mai received a heart transplant. Since having the transplant, with her incredible strength and willpower, she has bravely fought back. She is such a caring little girl with a very cheeky sense of humour and a great love for life.
Prince Harry who is a WellChild patron also attended the awards, he was very touched with the “strength of human spirit” that all of these special individuals have. Prince Harry says “While WellChild’s continued growth is helping the charity to reach more and more children and young people, there is still so much we can do”
